CGS23: Gendering Migration

The Online Congress on Gender Studies: Gendering Migration, co-organized by Karadeniz Technical University’s Women’s Studies Application and Research Centre, Altınbaş University Gender and Women’s Studies Research Centre TOKAMER Turkey, ATINER Greece, CESRAN International, and Karadeniz Technical University Centre for Strategic Research, has as its goal to think through gendered experiences of migration and the rise of anti-immigration tendencies in our contemporary era.

Migration has become a fiercely debated public issue all around the world: lives that are lost on the road to the dreams of a better life; waves of sudden migratory movements as a result of wars and natural disasters that leave millions of people without a shelter almost overnight; restlessness, discontent, and xenophobia in the receiving end of migratory movements are all part of our daily conversations and political debates. In this context, the experiences of women are hardly heard, and hence the need for a renewed focus on these experiences from the perspective of gender studies is evident.

In this line, the CGS congress aims to provide a forum for researchers, academics, practitioners, students, and educators to discuss migration processes and policies from the perspective of gender; and welcomes theoretical, empirical, conceptual, experimental, descriptive, and constructive studies.
